If you're anything like me, you love digging into the trivia that fills our world. You constantly ask Google things like "What zodiac sign is March 24th," or "What kinds of flowers are associated with each zodiac sign?" Allow me to share some of the answers that I have discovered recently to answer some of those questions.
Aries – First sign of the zodiac
As you may or may not know, the first sign of the zodiac is Aries. Of the birth month signs, the Aries zodiac sign has the somewhat unique distinction of being associated with two different flowers - the honeysuckle and the thistle. There are many attributes of a typical Aries that would tie them to such unique plants. Aries are often passionate, loyal, and deeply determined people who can make excellent natural leaders. Their gifts in these areas make them great people to rely on when you need to rally the troops to get a project or task done, and their love for the thrill of the chase can make them very exciting to court! Aries is also a fire sign, and the warm pinks, reds, oranges, and yellows of some cultivars of these plants line up naturally with the fiery nature of the sign. The added benefit of such passionate coloration in these species is they can make great options for a romantic bouquet or a subtly energetic pop of color in many other settings.
Aries - Honeysuckle
Honeysuckle is known widely as hardy a plant, enduringly tying them to the notion of everlasting bonds and devotion. Of course, there are also some more transparent connections to the ideas they are related to: their vibrant red, yellow, white, pink, and orange colors make them a natural flower to symbolize happiness and passion or romance, and their sweet scent brings the sweetness of gentle affection to mind when considering them as a gift for that special someone in your life. Honeysuckles are easy enough to care for if one is looking to keep your flower vase looking snappy. Petal Republic has a great article on honeysuckle. If you want to enjoy their beauty and incredible scent indoors, that is a decent option. If you change the water every few days, the honeysuckle’s blooms could last beyond a week. If you want to use a floral preservative, this can help make them even longer.
A burgeoning gardener might find honeysuckle a welcome addition to their garden, bringing some exciting elevation to the landscape from either vining or bush varieties. Vining honeysuckle needs a structure like a trellis to climb, as they cannot grip a fence or wall. However, with these, they can grow 8 to 15 feet! On the other hand, shrub honeysuckle tends to mound.
Aries - Thistle
Thistle has some equally clear relations to an Aries' personality. As the flower claimed by multiple ruling houses across Europe, Aries' leadership abilities are an easy attribute to link to this plant. Their pink a purple coloration also helps focus their relationship, both with Aries being a sign strongly associated with warm colors and with the royal associations of the color purple throughout history. Like honeysuckle, thistles are hardy and enduring plants, strongly connecting them to Aries' natural survival instincts. They also have been linked to courage - an essential part of an Aries' trailblazing personality! One exciting aspect of the thistle is its status as the national flower of Scotland. Legends tell of a band of sleeping Scots who awoke to the pained cries of an invading Norse army after one of the Norsemen stepped on the spikes of the thistle. This ruckus gave the Scots the warning they needed to rally and defeat the invaders. After that, the thistle was claimed as the national flower.
If you're looking for just the right flower for the Aries in your life, look no further than the honeysuckle or the thistle! While neither is part of your average bouquet, there's nothing average about an Aries to justify any ordinary flower. Go for the bold and vibrant choice to match the vibrance of that special someone. If you are an Aries, celebrate your individualism and tenacity!
